It’s been a busy few months. After the US Open I just played one more tournament in Tokyo and then unfortunately because of my shoulder injury I had to finish my year there.
Since then I’ve been in Canberra at the Australian Institute of Sport for about seven weeks doing some fitness work and rehabbing my shoulder, which meant seeing the physio four times a week and doing my shoulder rehab exercises every day to get that functional again.
I just arrived in Melbourne on 3 December, so I’m here until Christmas. I’m working with Nicole Pratt more on my game and now I’m able to hit a lot more tennis balls because my shoulder is good.
I’m out on the court every day, twice a day, hitting lots of balls and preparing and getting in the best shape I can for the summer of tennis.
I’m going home to Perth from Melbourne on the 22nd of December and I’ll have a few days over Christmas to relax with my family and friends and then I’ll be straight back into it.
I’ll stay in Perth for the Hopman Cup, then it’s off to Sydney and then Melbourne for the Australian Open.
Definitely those few days over Christmas I’ll thoroughly enjoy relaxing and spending some time with my family and friends and getting away from tennis for a few days and then really focusing on what I need to be doing, which will be preparing for the Hopman Cup.
Obviously I’m very excited about the Open. In 2008 I had some great experiences that kick started my breakthrough year, so I’m looking forward to this year and getting back on track, having another great Australian Open and playing some good tennis and playing in front of all the crowds and fans in Melbourne.
In 2008 every match had something. I think the match against Amelie Mauresmo on Rod Laver Arena in front of the home crowd was special. I’ll never forget the roar when I stood up at 5-4 in the third. That was definitely one of the best experiences of my life.
Talk soon,
Casey
