Dellacqua and Schiavone through to third round
Casey Dellacqua and Francesca Schiavone continued their winning ways in the doubles last night with a comprehensive 6-4 6-3 win over Alla Kudryavtseva and Ekaterina Makarova.
Dellacqua and Schiavone, who were finalists at French Open 2008, took their chances where their opponents couldn’t. The Australian–Italian pair converted five of seven break point chances, compared with their opponents who could only manage to win two of seven break point opportunities.
The twelfth-seeded pair will now meet No.7 seeds Maria Kirilenko and Flavia Pennetta in the third round.
Also still playing in the women’s doubles event are the No.5 seeds Sam Stosur and Rennae Stubbs.
Stosur and Stubbs will meet the Williams sisters, Venus and Serena, later today on Margaret Court Arena. The winner will progress to the quarterfinals.
In third-round men’s doubles action, Carsten Ball and Chris Guccione will meet Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach; Joseph Sirianni and Andrew Coelho will take on Simone Bolelli and Andreas Seppi; while Paul Hanley and Jordan Kerr will play No.4 seeds Lukas Dlouhy and Leander Paes.
