Dellacqua ready for Fed Cup

Casey Dellacqua’s Fed Cup campaign begins today in her home town of Perth where the Australian team will take on Korea at the State Tennis Centre.

Dellacqua will team with Fed Cup veteran Rennae Stubbs in the doubles on day one as the Australians strive to win their way out of Asia–Oceania Zone Group I.

“In the last year I’ve had some great doubles results and I’ve played a fair few matches with Rennae last year at Fed Cup time and I think we won most of them,” said Dellacqua.

“It’s great, I’m really excited whether I play, whatever it is, I’m definitely going to go out there and give it a good shot and be cheering the girls on when they step up to play tomorrow.”

Australia, seeded third, was yesterday drawn in Pool B along with No.2 Chinese Taipei, Korea and Thailand. Pool A consists of top seeds Uzbekistan, No.4 seed India, New Zealand and Indonesia.

In the first stage of the competition, the Australians will play the other teams in their pool, if they finish on top of the table then they will meet the ladder leader from Pool A for a place in April’s World Group II play-offs.

While the Australians don’t know a great deal about their opponents, they are cautious heading into this week’s matches. Dellacqua’s Fed Cup teammate Jelena Dokic told press that the team would not be taking any of its opposition lightly.

“I don’t think we know too many of the players, but I think we’re the favourites for this whole event and we still need to be cautious and we shouldn’t underestimate anybody,” said Dokic

Dellacqua will also have the added incentive of playing in front of her home crowd and on the courts she grew up playing on.

“This is where I trained [and] did all my squads, so I feel pretty comfortable out here.”
