Australia sweeps Thailand 3-0

Australia sweeps Thailand 3-0

Casey Dellacqua and Fed Cup doubles partner Rennae Stubbs made it two in two days today at Perth’s State Tennis Centre when they defeated Thai pair Noppawan Lertcheewakarn and Varatchaya Wongteanchai 6-4 6-2.

The win gave Australia it’s second consecutive 3-0 sweep as it pushes towards the Asia–Oceania Zone Group I play-off final on Saturday.

Dellacqua and Stubbs completed the rout in just over an hour on the same courts Dellacqua grew up playing on.

“It’s a bit weird now that [I’m] playing Fed Cup and for Australia on these same courts but at the same time it’s exciting and I’ve been out here when it’s windy and all sorts of conditions, so I kind of have an advantage, which is a bit of a bonus,” said Dellacqua.

The Australian duo has become a formidable combination and now boasts an enviable 5-0 doubles record together.

“I always enjoying playing with Rennae, it’s good fun and obviously we complement each other quite well out there on the court.”

Tomorrow Australia faces Indonesia in its final round-robin match. The last time these two teams met was in 2008 when Indonesia upset Australia 2-1 in Bangkok.

This, however, is a different team with Sam Stosur back from illness and the resurgent Jelena Dokic on board, the Australians are a strong favourite to progress to the play-offs in April.

“It’s been a great two days but I think we’ve got to keep consolidating on what we’ve done already and tomorrow’s another important day and every match is crucial.”
