Doubles duo completes sweep

Casey Dellacqua and Rennae Stubbs wrapped up a clean sweep of Korea with a comprehensive 6-0 6-2 win in the doubles over Lee Jin-A and Kyung Mi Chang.Dellacqua and Stubbs tore through the first set in less than 20 minutes as they set about demolishing the Korean doubles pair.

Despite holding an unassailable 2-0 lead, Dellacqua and Stubbs kept the pressure on their opponents and flew through the match to give their teammates an early mark on the first day of the Asia-Oceania Zone Group I & II play-offs.

“Everything’s crucial, it doesn’t matter [who it is], and you can’t really underestimate anybody. You’ve just got to go out there and do your job and do it as best you can and I think that’s what we did today, both the girls in singles and then us in the doubes,” said Dellacqua after the win.

The Australian team looks to be on a mission after missing out on the finals last year after the team suffered injury and illness setbacks.

“You don’t want to give away a set in this format,” explained Stubbs. “We want to go out there and win in straight sets convincingly because we know how important it is.”

The Australian team is expecting a tougher encounter tomorrow when it takes on Thailand. The Thai team boasts world No.41 Tamarine Tanasugarn who is the highest ranked player in the competition.

The Australian team’s line-up for tomorrow is yet to be announced by Optus Australian Fed Cup team captain David Taylor.
