Casey’s Australian Open 2010 blog
Last night I had a great night, I spent the night with a couple of friends. We played Uno and chilled out and I just tried to stay as relaxed as I could for today’s match against Anastasiya Yakimova.
This morning I came down and warmed up with Pratty [Nicole Pratt] my coach and Jess Moore was there to hit with me, which was great.
Then I just watched the scoreboard tick over and when it was my turn to play I warmed up with my trainer Giselle [Martin] and did some physical stuff to get me sweating a bit before I walked out on court.
The match was great, and it was good to come out with a win. Walking out on to Margaret Court Arena was so exciting.
That’s what I’ve missed for the past year while I haven’t been around or played matches or had any of those different feelings where you just get so excited to be out on court.
I was stoked to be out there and the Aussie crowd were fantastic. And to have a win just makes me think back to the last year and everything I’ve been through and it makes it all worthwhile.
After the first set I was feeling good, I was hitting the ball well and then she came out and was really aggressive and started to play some good tennis and I maybe relaxed a little bit – this is because I haven’t played a lot of matches.
I struggled to close that last set out, again, a lack of matches – I haven’t been in that situation for a while but I was able to close it out today.
I’ve done some recovery and I’ll probably just go out for a nice dinner and see the family or see some friends and just relax and keep going with the tournament.
Bye for now,
Casey
