Casey receives walkover into quarters

Casey Dellacqua has set up a quarterfinal meeting with Romanian Simona Halep after a fourth round walkover against Lauren Davis at the Indian Wells Masters tennis tournament.

Davis’s stomach virus ensured the Australian won through her sixth consecutive match at Indian Wells after the world No.78 had also had two victories in qualifying.

It is the biggest quarterfinal in singles of Dellacqua’s career - the Australian has twice before reached the quarters or better at WTA events (Hobart 2008 and Dallas 2012) but both were at International-level events.

It continues a good start to the year for the 29 year-old who reached the fourth round of the Australian Open in January.

She’ll have her hands full with Halep though, the world No.7 the most improved player on tour during 2013.

On Tuesday Halep eased to a 6-2 1-6 6-4 win over Australian Open 2014 finalist Eugenie Bouchard.

This will be Dellacqua and Halep’s first meeting.

“She’s lefty, and it’s not easy to play with a lefty because usually we play right-handed players,” the Romanian told

“I don’t know her. I never played against her. I think it will be a surprise for me.”
