Bouchard defeats Dellacqua in fourth round
Canadian 30th seed Eugenie Bouchard has defeated Australian wildcard Casey Dellacqua in the fourth round of the Australian Open in three sets, 6-7(5) 6-2 6-0.
Dellacqua started strongly, grabbing an early break before Bouchard broke back late in the set. It didn’t bother the West Australian though, winning the set in a tense tiebreak.
But in the second set the Canadian found her range and started to swing more freely, putting pressure on Dellacqua.
With the match tied at a set apiece the momentum was with Bouchard who closed out the match to move into the quarterfinals.
This was Dellacqua’s best result at the Australian Open since 2008 when she also made it to the fourth round.
