Casey enjoys mixed victory

Casey Dellacqua has erased the disappointment of her women’s doubles quarterfinal loss by winning her mixed doubles third round match with Scottish partner Jamie Murray on Centre Court on Thursday.

In a busy schedule for the West Australian, Dellacqua combined with Ash Barty in the women’s event and pushed No.2 seeds Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci of Italy to three sets before falling 6-4 2-6 6-0.

It was a solid tournament for the sixth seeds, who advanced to the quarterfinals at the All England Club for the second straight year; they reached the final in 2013.

But Dellacqua was able to soften the blow with victory in the mixed with Murray, sending the Australian-Scottish pair into the quarterfinals.

That progression came by way of their 7-5 6-3 victory over sixth seeds Horia Tecau and Sania Mirza, a solid doubles pairing but who could not contend with Dellacqua and Murray on Centre Court.

“It’s great playing with a Murray in England because you get a lot of support,” Dellacqua said.

“When I grew up in Australia we’d stay up during the middle of the night to watch Wimbledon, and I’ve had two opportunities this year to play on Centre Court, so for me it’s a massive thrill.”

The duo will next face No.14 seeds Belarusian Max Mirnyi and Hao-Ching Chan of Taipei.
