Casey’s blog, 16 November
I’m pretty excited about playing this week. Unfortunately for the last six to eight weeks I’ve had a bad foot injury [tendonitis in my right foot] and I haven’t been able to hit and be on court as much as I’d like.
I’m not going to be able to play singles this week in Esperance, but I am going to play doubles with Alicia Molik and get my career back started there and just play some matches and monitor my foot.
Hopefully my foot will keep improving and I’ll be able to play singles the following week in Kalgoorlie.
Esperance will be a great start, getting back into tournament mode. I haven’t been around a tournament for a long time now [the last was at Dubai in February 2009].
It will be good to be around Alicia again and be around a lot of the girls and just get my tournament hat back on. I’ve been in rehab, fitness, recovery, training mode for most of year, so I’m really looking forward to it.
Alicia and I have only played doubles together at the [Beijing] Olympics last year. Obviously she’s also making her comeback as well. We’ll drive down to Esperance together and stay together, play dubs and hang out together. It’ll be nice to have her around because she’s been through kind of what I’ve been through as well in terms of injury.
We’ll share the driving and I’ll be the DJ in the passenger seat. It’ll be good to keep each other company because it’s a fair drive from Perth. At the moment I’m heaps into hip hop and R’n’B. I’ve got a few pump up songs that I’ve planned for when I play my first match – ‘Drop it low’ and a song by Mario called ‘Stuttering’. And maybe a few 80s songs that we can sing along to on the way.
Bye for now,
