Dellacqua through to third round

Casey Dellacqua has trumped Karolina Sprem in the second-round of Australian Open 2010 in a tough match at Rod Laver Arena on Thursday night.

The West Australian won the match in straight sets, 7-6(4) 7-6(6) at Rod Laver Arena in front of a royal crowd. With Prince William enjoying the action, Dellacqua showcased some solid tennis as Sprem fought her all the way.

The first set went to a tiebreaker, but Dellacqua held her nerve and Sprem out to claim it 7-4.

The second set saw the pair trade breaks as the momentum shifted back and forth. Dellacqua had two match points in the eleventh game, but Sprem fought back to force a second-set tiebreaker.

In a tense tiebreak, Dellacqua hit a strong off-forehand to bring up match point. The next point Dellacqua netted a forehand to level the tiebreak at 6-6.  A Sprem double fault handed Casey another match point, which she gratefully accepted when Sprem hit a ball long.

Dellacqua will meet sixth-seeded Venus Williams in the third round in what will be a marquee match for the Australian.

“It’ll be great to get out here and play Venus and I’ll give it a good crack,” an ecstatic Dellacqua said after the match.
