Dellacqua to face Keys in AO first round
Casey Dellacqua will play American Madison Keys in the first round of the Australian Open on Monday.
Three ranking places and 10 years separate these two who have never met on court before.
Currently ranked just outside the top 100 at 102, Dellacqua was a direct entrant to this year’s Open, while her 105th-ranked opponent, Keys, needed a wildcard to crack the main draw.
This will be just the second time that Keys has played the main draw of the Australian Open following a first-round straight-sets loss to Jie Zheng in 2012. For Dellacqua, this will be the West Australian’s 10th time in Melbourne, with her best result being a spirited run to the fourth round in 2008.
Should Dellacqua win, a potential second-round meeting with 30th seed Tamira Paszek awaits should she overcome Swiss Stefanie Voegele in the opening round.
In the doubles Dellacqua will team with rising Aussie Ashleigh Barty. The duo will face a tough first-round assignment in Francesca Schiavone and Polona Hercog.
